Success Story: Rupa Bhanushali – From Adversity to Achievement

Rupa Bhanushali was born in a small village called Ashapar in Kutch, Gujarat. Her parents were farmers and had no formal education, but they gave her something far more valuable—unwavering support and belief in her abilities.

At just six months old, Rupa suffered from severe fever. Due to lack of awareness about polio vaccination in her village at that time, she developed polio as a side effect of medical treatment. Though extensive treatment helped her recover most of her mobility, one leg remained permanently affected. What could have limited her dreams instead became the foundation of her resilience.

Later, her family shifted from Kutch to Valsad, where Rupa began her education. Determined to build an independent life, she pursued a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering—a field rarely chosen by women, especially persons with disabilities. Her parents supported her at every step.

Building a Professional Career

After completing her studies, Rupa started her professional journey and is currently working as a Project Manager at Ambition Marine, where she contributes to shipbuilding design and mechanical drawings. Her career stands as a strong example of skill, determination, and professionalism.

In 2010, Rupa got married and became a mother to a son. Unfortunately, after seven years, her marriage ended in divorce. Since then, she has been raising her son single-handedly. Balancing a demanding job, household responsibilities, and her child’s education has been extremely challenging—but Rupa never gave up.

Discovering NAAI Abilympics: A Turning Point

Rupa’s life took a transformative turn when she learned about NAAI Abilympics competitions for Persons with Disabilities, organized by Sarthak Educational Trust through a friend. In 2025, she participated in Abilympics for the first time and realized that her professional skills matched one of the competition categories.

However, the required software was new to her. Despite a packed daily schedule—office work, household responsibilities, and motherhood—Rupa trained relentlessly. She hired a coach, learned the software from scratch, and practiced late into the night.

Her dedication paid off. At the Regional & National Abilympics 2025, Rupa Bhanushali won the Gold Medal in the Engineering CAD Skill Category, proving that perseverance and hard work can overcome any obstacle.

Role of NAAI & Sarthak Educational Trust

Rupa credits the National Abilympic Association of India (NAAI) and Sarthak Educational Trust for providing a platform that truly recognizes the talent of persons with disabilities.

Through this platform, she gained professional exposure, confidence, meaningful networks, and national-level recognition of her skills. She believes that these organizations do more than organize competitions—they build belief, inspire confidence, and showcase the capabilities of persons with disabilities to the world.

Future Dream: Gold for India & Inspiration for Women

Rupa’s dream now is clear—to win a Gold Medal for India at the international level. She is committed to working as hard as it takes to achieve this goal.

Beyond medals, she wants to set an example for society—that a disabled, single woman, despite immense challenges, can move forward with dignity, confidence, and success. She especially hopes to inspire women who lose confidence when faced with difficulties.

Rupa Bhanushali’s journey proves that disability is not a limitation—lack of opportunity is. Thanks to platforms like NAAI and Sarthak Educational Trust, countless hidden talents are finding recognition and respect on national and global stages.

Her story is not just a success story—it is a powerful message of hope, courage, and limitless possibility.
